Marmaris is one of the best known towns on the Turkish Riviera. Despite its renown Marmaris is still a town of only 30,000 people, although this figure swells to 300,000 – 400,000 during the summer months. The town’s main income is now tourism and an extensive building and development programme has left little remaining of the sleepy fishing village that was here up until the 1980s. The town still retains some charm however and its stunning location, hemmed in between two mountain ranges and the sea, keeps people coming back year after year.

Marmaris enjoys a pleasant climate that is not as harsh as some of the resorts further to the south. It is naturally sheltered and its location on a wide natural bay has meant it has always been of importance to mariners and it is now an excellent base for those interested in diving or sailing. In fact, even when the summer hordes have departed, Marmaris still serves as an established stopping point for yachts cruising the winter Mediterranean.
